The TEN: OPM Female Artists - Honoring the women trailblazers

Women’s Month Celebration - The New Hue takes part in recognizing and honoring the valuable role of women in today’s black and white society and culture.


This year, we put forward the Top 10 OPM female artists who confidently showcased their artistic qualities in the OPM scene through their music — graciously manifesting the power of music to influence and lay down good harmonies of empowerment, equality, breaking barriers and stereotypes, and generously exhibiting upbeat rhythms as pioneers of change in their own creative way.


The first five on the list, we have the OPM female artists who have established their mark on the OPM scene and are continuously producing remarkable records for everyone out there. Listen to their latest releases here:

11:59 (cover art)

A soulful track that talks about the concept of giving your significant other one final chance to work the relationship out. The track was composed by Grammy-nominated producer, Luigie “LUGO” Gonzales alongside Paulino Lorenzo and Idrise Ward-El. Published under Tarsier Records, this track marks Tandingan's first global music release, which she reckons as a record closest to her artistic roots.


Heartbeat On Me (cover art)

A funky pop record that speaks of exploration around self-love and how its intricacies influence the love we give to others. The track is a collaboration with LA-based artist producer-songwriter Jesse Barrera. Both Valenciano and Barrera wrote it alongside Albert Posis. Since its release in February 2022, Heartbeat On Me has garnered over 100k streams on Spotify alone. The release of the track comes after Valenciano dropped her Dazed EP in 2021.


The One (cover art)

A romantic pop ballad song about yearning for love as two await each one’s confession about genuine emotions and feelings. The track is a team-up between Leanne & Naara and Filipino/Canadian producer August Rigo. The official music video and stripped version of the track are available for streaming via Leanne & Naara’s YouTube Channel.


Over You (cover art)

The track features a blend of synth and funk, exhibiting a narrative revolving around the concept of dealing with unresolved emotions, past mistakes, and behaviors that springs from past relationships. The record is a collaboration with LUSTBASS whom Connelly had collaborated with in her most-streamed single, Wait.


Entertain Me (cover art)

A synth-pop song about self-confidence and female empowerment. Produced under Paradise Rising of 88rising Records, the track made its mark on a couple of notable breakthroughs as it served as an instrument to introduce the video game, Valorant’s first-ever Pinoy character. Since its release, it has now amassed over 13M streams on digital platforms. You can watch the official music video via 88 rising’s YouTube Channel. The track also has a remix version with English record producer 220 KID.


The following five on the list, we have fresh OPM female artists that we should all watch out for as they take a step in putting out new and bold messages of our time. Listen to their latest releases here:

Serve (cover art)

The young Pinay rapper served the generation with this remarkable viral record in the name of serve. A hip-hop record that boldly tapped on breaking the stereotypes surrounding male-dominated fields — bringing buzz as it speaks up for the women being attacked with negative misogynist, all by spitting some crisp bars that roared the local hip-hop scene.


kung di man (cover art)

Kung di man is the carrier single of Dominque’s 3-track kundiman EP. The artist’s first-ever all Tagalog EP which explores the phenomenon of traditional Filipino love songs. The lead track speaks of the final plea anchored in desperate moments of letting go, moving on, and ending a phase of lost love.


Brand New (cover art)

A soulful track that talks about moving on from a bitter fallout. The launch marks the R&B/pop singer-songwriter from Cebu, her sophomore release for the year. Published under Careless Music, Brand New is co-written by producer Marcus Davis and is produced by Tim Marquez and Isagani Palabyab. Since its release, it has garnered over 200k streams on Spotify. The official visualizer can be streamed on Careless Music’s YouTube Channel.


Lovesick (cover art)

This track features an indie-pop tune that speaks of emotions revolving around fear and unpreparedness, embedded in feelings of anxiousness caused by a potential romance. It serves as the singer-songwriter’s debut single under ABS-CBN’s Pop music and is produced by Star Pop head Rox Santos


Need It (cover art)

An R&B track that explores more about love and its peaks and valleys. This track serves as daze’s debut single for the year 2022, following the launch of her single, Lonely, released in April 2021. Published under Tarsier Records, it now has over 35k streams on digital platforms.
